Dear San Diego Orthopedic Colleagues,​

We are excited to announce the 42nd Annual Malcolm B. Coutts Visiting Professorship on Friday, January 30, 2026.

This year we have a fantastic new venue: The Alexandria at Torrey Pines / Farmer & The Seahorse which is located in the Torrey Pines Mesa of La Jolla near the Torrey Pines Golf Course.

This year’s visiting professor will be Dr. William Hamilton from the Anderson Orthopaedic Clinic in Alexandria, VA. Dr. Hamilton is a member of the Hip Society and Knee Society. Over the last two decades he has been a leader in anterior hip replacements, advancing technologies in joint replacement and the transition of joint replacement surgeries to the ambulatory setting. Dr. Hamilton has received numerous awards for his contributions in the field and maintains leadership positions in AAOS and AAHKS.

Additionally, we will have select experts from our various health systems in San Diego representing all subspecialties presenting on topics with a general theme of ‘the most important thing you should know about developments in my subspecialty over the last 5 years.’

We will continue the tradition of Orthopaedic resident jeopardy between the residents from Navy and UCSD. The winner will take home the Golden Femur Award for 2026.

​

At the meeting we will also announce the award for San Diego’s Orthopaedic ‘Partner of the Year’ to recognize an exceptional member of the San Diego orthopedic community for their patient care, contributions, collaboration, and leadership.  We encourage SDOS members to nominate outstanding orthopedic surgeons for Partner of the Year which will be voted on by the SDOS Board.  Please send your nomination with supporting statements to: farmer.kiersten@sandiegospinefoundation.org.  The due date for nominations for SDOS Partner of the Year is December 15th, 2025.
